We can just see us back in the days when we were new to vaping. Ruining coils, not knowing which the right nicotine strength is for us and constantly posting on forums in order to get advice. “Lucky” for us, there weren’t so many vaping devices on the market. It seems funny now, but it sure wasn’t back then.
There is a lot of knowledge we gained since and thought it was a good idea to share some basics for the ones that just made the switch from smoking to vaping.
How to find the right e-cig
We believe you should start your vaping journey with a starter kit. This way you won’t have to run through a dozen of technical descriptions to see what works with what (often things sound more complicated on paper than it does once you have the device in front of your eyes.). Or, in the worst case scenario, to find that your recently purchased new tank looks odd or is not even compatible with the battery you already have.
The vaping industry evolved considerably in the last years so even the kits that address to new vapers can easily satisfy the needs of the most experienced vapers. Let’s take our Ohm Go Kit as an example of that – it features sub-ohm capabilities (more common among advanced vapers) but it’s extremely easy to use. As easy as inserting the coil into the clearomiser, prime it, filling the tank with e-liquid and pressing the firing button. And, voila, you’re a vaper now!
Another thing worth mentioning is to check thoroughly the user manual of your device. Every product is different and you want to use your e-cig in the way the producer recommends you to. From charging to assembling and operating, all the info you need is there.
What nicotine strength to choose
The nicotine levels of the e-juices (0mg up to 24mg) are a bit different than what you used to be smoking, so choosing the best strength can be a bit of a pain.
Regular devices
If you are a heavy ex-smoker who had more than 20 cigarettes a day, 10mg tar level, then you should probably start with 24mg e-liquid (50/50 VG/PG ratio like the Apollo line, used on regular vaping devices). Once the nicotine cravings start to diminish, you can reduce the nicotine level gradually.
The 18mg level is more suitable for those who used to have 7-8mg tar levels, and so on. If smoking used to be just a hobby and not really addicted to nicotine, then the 0mg nicotine is the best choice.
Sub-ohm devices
The nicotine strength on sub-ohm devices is a different story. Being capable of firing under 1ohm of resistance, the sub-ohm tanks are best used with high VG e-liquids and give way more intense flavour and strength. In this case, you should consider going below 6mg as you don’t want to experience too strong and harsh taste.
The vaping techniques also can play an important role in choosing the right nicotine strength. The mouth to lung (MTL) style is the most similar to the way an analogue cigarette is smoked, being probably the first to be tried by those who quit smoking and start vaping. As the vapour inhale goes into the mouth first and then into the lungs, we can say that the guidelines from regular devices can be successfully applied.
On the other hand, the Direct Lung (DL) technique is often associated with sub-ohming, therefore you should stick to sub-ohm devices recommendations stated above.

What flavours to try
When it comes to flavours, it’s only a matter of personal taste. Apollo is offering you a great selection of 50/50 VG/PG e-liquids who can be divided into tobacco, menthol, fruity, drinks or dessert flavours.
The Max VG ranges featured on Apollo UK site are 80/20 VG/PG. The high VG e-liquids offer more complex flavour layering and are not meant to be used in plastic clearomisers, but preferably in advanced tanks (glass made, sub-ohms).
Just check the category that sounds most appealing and choose the flavour mix that will make your taste buds dancing!
